First some info on new scopes, then a preview of upcoming
attractions once we have a full staff:

One of the new features associated with the move to the DCB
module in SOLAR is the creation of a location scope for each or
your libraries. Just do a search, then click the pulldown list
in the web opac and find and select your library's name. Run
the search again and you see only the matches that you own.

Once we have the Library Systems Coordinator position filled
(early fall) we will be able to assist you in a number of
further enhancements:

1. Create a scoped link so that your patrons can click on a
link from your home page and go directly into a view of SOLAR
that only shows the items you own.

2. Automatic configuration of searches from within your library
to show the same view.

3. Allow some or all of your patrons to place requests
themselves from home. Implementation is optional for each
library.

4. Once patron records are in the system you can also checkout
items you received to an individual rather than to the generic
library id. You need not create temp ids in your local system
if you do not wish to. If you have no local system at all, this
should be a distinct advantage, removing the need for manual
records.

5. Addition of a large number of LC resource records for
attachment of new item information and/or download to your local
system.

6. Revamped user interface for SOLAR searching to make it more
similar to Minerva (http://minerva.maine.edu).

7. Introduction of WebWorks for easy, web-based editing and
deleting for situations in which Millennium Cataloging is to
complex.

Regards,

Karl
