Hi all,
Today everything finally worked out with III regarding the software
migration to move SOLAR to new hardware. We will finally be able to put
all the hardware troubles with the current machine behind us. The date
is tentatively set for sometime the week of Aug 20. The person at III
who will perform the work is currently on vacation until this Thursday,
so I will know a certain date then.
During the migration, all access to the system will be unavailable.
They say to plan on it being down for 24 hours, but we recently did the
same thing for Minerva, and that system was back up again after about 6
hours. Still, you never know. The way it works is that UNET staff will
perform a full backup of the system software the night before, usually
around midnight, then that backup is loaded onto the new server. Any
work done between the time of the backup and the launch of the new
system will be lost. Further details will be follow, and if you have
any questions, let me know. Basically you need to plan on not being
able to access SOLAR for most of one day, but you will have plenty of
notice when it will happen. Thanks for your patience.
