[SOLAR-L] MaineCat requesting & SSL

According to III, and as far as I have been able to tell, the MaineCat
issue I described below occurs only when a patron requests an item which
is available at their own home library. If another library in their
system has a copy available, but their home library does not, they still
can place a MaineCat request. For example, a MSL patron can request an
available item from BPL through MaineCat. A MSL patron cannot request
an item available at MSL through MaineCat, but can request the same item
through URSUS. Thanks to Jonathan Williams & Louise Hinkley for helping
me figure this out.
Still, it seems a bit odd that no one reported this as an issue until
recently. So I searched through some of the email list archives to see
if this was ever addressed by Karl during implementation of the agency
model of requesting, but did not find anything specifically about a
patron requesting an available item at their home library. If you find
any further problems or any exceptions to this, please let me know.
Regarding the SSL certificates, I have heard from a few people in
Minerva that their patrons are no longer getting security errors when
using the OPAC. That's great & again I apologize that it took so long
to get this issue resolved. If anyone still has a problem using
Mainecat, please let me know. I have updated the press release about
browser security, and you can access it here:

headline "Maine InfoNet improves security for your library catalog"
under What's New on the right side.
As a reminder, you should now use the "official" OPAC addresses below:

MaineCat old addresses: infonet.maine.edu, inreach.ursus.maine.edu, or
130.111.64.9
Minerva official address: http://minerva.maine.edu
Minerva old addresses: ursus2.ursus.maine.edu or 130.111.64.52
SOLAR official address: http://solar.maine.edu

Subject: [MAINECAT-L] MaineCat requesting & SSL [internal-from_ADV?]
The current problem is that if a Minerva library has an item Available,
a Minerva patron cannot request it through MaineCat. Same goes for all
MaineCat contributing systems, as far as I can tell (URSUS, CBB, SOLAR,
etc.), I'm just using Minerva as an example. The patron gets the error,
"You cannot use Maine Info Net to request items that are available at
your institution." This is exactly what used to happen prior to when we
moved to the Agency model of requesting last year. I just spoke to one
of the INN-Reach experts at III and she did not understand why this is
happening either, since everything appeared to be fine on their end.
She will check in with the person there who knows most about Agencies &
will call back tomorrow.
This may or may not have anything to with the new SSL certificates which
I installed on MaineCat and Minerva servers this afternoon. The new SSL
certs were issued by thawte.com, an issuer which should be known to just
about everyone's browser software without having to install anything. A
cert for SOLAR will be coming soon. If you continue to notice any
security-related error messages on Minerva or MaineCat, please let me
know.
