If you have item records that you can't delete because they say they are still checked out or they have a patron message attached, the folks at the Innovative help desk offer the following suggestion (which I used to clear errant links and messages from a hundred items this afternoon)

Open up the item record, change the status to @, save, copy the barcode# and check it back in.  Items that were locked before we went to DCB will need to be checked in under telnet.

In the process of checking this out, I made a list of records that have older due dates. I'll be emailing those to the owning libraries so they can check to see it the items have been returned or are still out.
