[SOLAR-L] Fulfilling Direct ILL requests

(Please pardon the cross-postings)

There are occasionally comments/questions/complaints about fulfillment
of ILL requests that come directly to a library from another library by
either email or telephone.

Some of the requesting libraries are told by the library they contacted
that the request will not be filled because they only loan to libraries
that are on the van delivery service. The most common reason for only
lending to other van delivery service libraries is that the library
cannot afford the cost of postage along with the cost of the van
delivery service.

While this is perfectly understandable, please do not end the
conversation with that reply.

You can really help out the requesting library by suggesting they
contact their ARRC (Area Reference and Resource Center) for their ILL
requests. Information about the ARRCs can be found at
http://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/interlib/index.htm. They can also contact
their district consultant for further information on ILL requesting and
what their ARRC can do for them.

Thanks,
Deb
