Good afternoon,

Karl has loaded a considerable number of bibliographic records recently from the Library of Congress database. These are coded with REC in the bib location part of the fixed fields. When those of you who are cataloging new items to be added to SOLAR, find one of these bib records, please pay attention to the following three things. Doing so will make for a complete record that shows in MaineCat.

1-change the REC to your three letter code, do not simply add yours and leave the REC.

2- in the fixed fields at the top, change the o in the initials field to a dash. Do this by double clicking on it, then clicking on the dash and then on OK.

3-make sure the 300 field is correct. Some of these bib records are pre-publication records and only have p cm in the 300 field. Add the page # and if you have a ruler, the size in cm. This will help avoid someone adding a second bib later on during a batch load. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly at berek at tds.net

Regards,
John Clark
