[SOLAR-L] Solar update

Good morning.

I wanted to update everyone on what has been happening behind the scenes
recently. I have cleaned up some 700 artifact messages attached to item
records as well as checking in some 200 items that had previously been
returned. Most of these stemmed from the days when we were using telnet and
there were issues that temporarily broke connections while transactions were
being processed. By having these cleaned up, it means that these items can
be deleted or checked out properly. I have a few libraries that are still
in the process of checking to see what items have made their way home, but
the process should be completed by the middle of September.
I am also running hold cancellation notices for everyone at least three
days a week. This not only alerts you that a request needs to be remade, it
also prevents more buildup of artifact patron messages on items.
I have completed a history and assessment of Solar for Barbara McDade, Deb
Hensler and Jon Forest so we can plan for Solar's future. After we meet, I
hope to be able to make a progress report on getting new libraries ready as
well as reloading those awaiting same.
Regards,
John Clark

"I looked at the pills in my hand. I was
too shaky to go downstairs and brew fresh
coffee. I shrugged and popped the medication,
washing it down with stale Mountain Dew and
ignoring the swirl of dead minges as I did."
