From Deborah.Hensler at maine.gov Tue Jul 1 10:58:16 2008 From: Deborah.Hensler at maine.gov (Hensler, Deborah) Date: Tue, 1 Jul 2008 10:58:16 -0400 Subject: [SOLAR-L] Change in cataloging support Message-ID: <3233E4190E74E84CB8BB502705B83EFF03C26096@SOM-TEAQASMAIL1.som.w2k.state.me.us> (Sorry for the cross-postings but I want to make sure everyone who should see this does.) As of July 1, 2008, the Maine InfoNet hours for cataloging support shared by Bonnie Collins and Ellen Conway have been cut from 20 hours/week to 10 hours/week for budgetary reasons. Bonnie and Ellen will both continue working with Maine InfoNet, but in an obviously limited capacity. The biggest change you will see is the elimination of the cataloging classes and workshops taught by Bonnie. The classes that were scheduled for the rest of 2008 have been removed from the calendar after notifying registrants of the cancellations. Bonnie and Ellen will no longer be able to provide how-to-catalog support or training. Most of their time will be concentrated on database cleanup. Questions or problems with using the Millennium Cataloging module can still be addressed to Ellen, but please remember that she will only be working 5 hours/week. For most questions or how-to's, the listservs (MinervaCats-L, SOLAR-L, and MaineCatalogers-L) are there for you to use, both to ask for help and to share your knowledge with your colleagues. You can sign up for any of the listservs at http://www.maine.gov/infonet/listservs.htm#catalogers. ______________________________ Deborah Hensler Library Systems Specialist, Maine InfoNet Maine State Library 64 State House Station Augusta, ME 04333 207-287-5620 or 1-800-322-8899 207-287-5624 - fax 207-592-1825 - mobile http://www.maine.gov/infonet/ From Dean.Corner at maine.gov Tue Jul 1 15:04:16 2008 From: Dean.Corner at maine.gov (Corner, Dean) Date: Tue, 1 Jul 2008 15:04:16 -0400 Subject: [SOLAR-L] Cataloging support Message-ID: <3233E4190E74E84CB8BB502705B83EFF03778819@SOM-TEAQASMAIL1.som.w2k.state.me.us> Hello Everyone: Thanks, Deb, for alerting Minerva & SOLAR libraries about the decrease in hours to Bonnie and Ellen for catalog support. I'm sure that many libraries have benefited from the cataloging training are wondering what caused this cut in support hours. Our federal funding for the 2008-2009 budget cycle was cut $61,000. This was in addition to $40,000 cut from our state funds late in the last budget cycle and $182,000 in state funds for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. State and federal budget cuts were applied to all MSL sections and programs including the elimination of some vacant positions, and decreases in funding for large print books, standing reference and periodical orders, circulating books, ARRC libraries, supplies, MARVEL, administration and temporary staffing for cataloging support to name some but not all. Our senators in Washington are aware of how the federal cuts are effecting Maine libraries. We hope that full federal funding for MSL will be restored in the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Many libraries in the field have also incurred cuts to their budgets. I hope that all of us can get through the next fiscal year and that libraries throughout the state rebound after that.
