From James.JacksonSanborn at maine.edu Wed Feb 11 07:57:35 2009 From: James.JacksonSanborn at maine.edu (James M. Jackson Sanborn) Date: Wed, 11 Feb 2009 07:57:35 -0500 Subject: [SOLAR-L] MSL1 server Message-ID: <542f6f140902110457p1b5e99d6h9b6d52ddc4cb80c@mail.gmail.com> Good morning- Last week we turned off access to the MSL1 (msl1.ursus.maine.edu) server. The server itself was hosting a number of services, most of which seemed to be out of date or unused. Because of the age of the server, the out of date nature of the software the server was running, and the apparent lack of use, I decided that it was vulnerable to hacking and should be shut down. Since turning off the machine, however, we have found at least two active uses of the server: 1) as a location for download of the Millenium software and 2) as a file transfer location point for some cataloging record update files. While we work to find a new location for these services, you can download the software by logging in to http://*csdirect*.iii.com We will also get the webpage documentation up to date regarding software download. If there are other services that you are currently using that have been hosted on the MSL1 server, please contact me as soon as possible. The server is still available, and if there are files that are needed to be recovered from it, that will not be a problem. I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused. -James _____________________________ James M Jackson Sanborn Executive Director, Maine InfoNet University of Maine 5784 York Village, Suite 58 Orono, Maine 04469-5784 207-581-3083 207-356-0238 (cell) 207-581-3095 (fax) james.jacksonsanborn at maine.edu -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I know Minerva libraries can do this using http://minerva.maine.edu/search~S and then adding the library location code number at the end. I haven't been able to locate a list of MaineCat or Solar location code numbers, and wondered if anyone else had tried this. I am still adding content, and will post more of the past Cataloging User Group meetings minutes. I hope that at some point all this information will be available on the Maine InfoNet webpages, but for the immediate future this is the best way I can think of to post cataloging help in a timely fashion. Please take a look and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. Thanks, and Happy Friday! Ellen -- Ellen M.
